Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would put her at least in the eyes of America, into the category of child prodigy. It was an innate trait for a girl who was of Irish heritage, that was surrounded during the beginning by gifted family members and parents. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake in "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen was a great athlete and participated in rough, competitive sports when she was a young. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in sports. This was demonstrated by her getting almost every Feis award for drama and the stage that her country had to offer. When she turned 14, she was invited into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre as well as operatic vocals.
